The Return of the Absent Writer

Well hello there, it’s been awhile.

2021 hasn’t been kind to my creative side. If you’re out there, and you’ve been creating this year—writing, painting, drawing, acting, singing, playing music, any form of creating—you’re my inspiration. Here I am, trying to get back on this horse. It’s a stubborn horse, stalwart in its refusal to move, even when lured with carrots and sugar cubes.

Ch-ch-changes

I’m making a few updates to this blog. They will be gradual, not all at once. Mini-projects for me to focus on to give me small goals to meet. I know I’m blogging into the void on this, but maybe one day that won’t be the case.

Project 1: separate my book impressions into individual posts.

Though I want to stay away from rated reviews of books on this blog, I want to make my thoughts on the books I’ve been reading to be more discoverable by the mysterious algorithms of the World Wide Web. I’m doing this specifically for indie books I might read in the future—I want to boost those authors any way I can, even if it’s small. Thought counts, right? I’ll probably organize them into a category on the blog’s menu, too.

Project 2: Write more pupdates!

Who doesn’t love puppies? I started writing The Puppy Diaries to be an easy, low pressure way to have some fun with an epistolary format. The mind is a strange thing, though, and I felt less and less willing to sit down and put myself in my pup’s shoes. I’m going to attempt to write one pup entry a month. Maybe I’ll do more! But once a month will hopefully be low-pressure enough for me to avoid self-sabotage… right?

Project 3: …I don’t know?

I feel like projects come in threes, so I feel like there should be a third option here. But I’m fresh out of ideas. A blog companion to my ongoing chronological Keanu Reeves movie watch? More frequent posts about my writing process? Worldbuilding? Another primer on literary magazine submissions? More character introductions? You tell me, void of strangers…

Until next time,

-M
