I love this series. S.A. Chakraborty paints a beautiful, detail rich world. It’s half-hidden world, half-secondary setting to me, because though the world of the Kingdom of Copper and The City of Brass is steeped and rooted in traditions and geography of out own, the way Chakraborty seamlessly weaves fantastical elements into her would is breathtaking. Seriously, some of her descriptions of the colors, tastes, and smells of Daevabad make my mouth water. She also fills this world with characters I want to shout at and hug at the same time. (Alizayd…looking at YOU.)

If you want conflicting loyalties done right, read this book. If you want complex characterizations, read this book. If you want story that will carry you away, read this book! (Well, go read The City of Brass first but, you know what I mean!
