The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart

And I thought my reading slump was bad in 2020. Apparently 2021 has not cured all ills.
Don’t hold this against the book! The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart was a fresh fantasy debut. And when I managed to sit down and read, I enjoyed every moment. Multiple POVs is something I’m generally a fan of, and it was a bold choice to switch between first and third person for some of the POVs. They all had a distinct voice, and I love how my view of several of them changed as mysteries at the core of the novel unraveled, right at the end. The magic system was also inventive and I’m excited to see more of its implications explored in the rest of the series. Overall, Andrea Stewart has me invested in a new fantasy world, and excited to see where she takes her characters in the next installment of this series. What’s not to love?
