First of all, the picture of this book does not do it justice. It it GORGEOUS. The colors are vibrant, there’s a wonderful texture to the slip cover, I love this art of Shuri standing proud, a Wankandan panther in the background.

As for the story? It was delightful. Nic Stone hit Shuri’s voice just right. As someone who used to be a comic reader but now pretty much only watches MCU content, Shuri being so young (she’s a teenager in this book) did throw me a little bit, as did a few timeline elements, where Wakanda’s history in the comics is clearly different from the MCU. I say this mostly because if you were going to hand this book to someone who’d only seen the movie Black Panther, they’d likely have the same experience.

This book is for a younger audience; but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it. The prose was fun and believably grounded in Shuri’s point of view. If you want a fun adventurous story featuring Wakanda’s brightest young scientist, I’d definitely check this book out.
