Morning Star by Pierce Brown
Started: 6 February 2022
Finished: 19 March 2022
First of all… I should be honest and admit that though I finished this book in March, I’m only writing this book thought now, in August 2022 because… BECAUSE. I’m still writing it, and that’s what counts.
Here’s some proof of what I thought of this book immediately after I finished it:
So… I liked it? Hah. Truly, this book does not let up. My favorite part is how it lets Darrow struggle with his trauma throughout the book — what he’s been through changes him. And everyone around him. The relationships in this book are absolutely devastating in the best way possible. And Brown brings all the disparate threads he tossed out in Golden Son back and weaves them together brilliantly to tie up Darrow’s story in what is probably one of the best series enders I’ve read, if it’s okay to repeat myself in one paragraph.
I don’t want to get into spoiler territory; so I won’t! But if redemption arcs are your thing and you like galactic space operas with high stakes, morally grey characters, and break-neck pacing for three solid books, you should definitely read this trilogy. If only so you can experience the last hundred pages of this book for yourself.
Sevro & Darrow & Mustang for ever. <3 I almost don’t want to read more in the Red Rising universe because I don’t want to ruin the world state this part of the story ends in.
I will also say, if you’re looking for a “burn it all down and rebuild from the ashes” kind of book, which seems to be in continual season this decade, this trilogy will also be for you.
