I had no idea what to expect from this book. I picked it up out of guilt. Why? Because it was just last year that I realized the John Green whose books I made fun of in college for being sappy = the John Green who makes up one half of the VLOGBROTHERS, aka the creators of Nerdfighteria, aka the moral center and social conscious of the Internet. Once I realized this John Green was the same author I’d stuck my nose up at, I owed it to the cosmic balance to at least try reading his books to develop an opinion of them actually based on the content of his stories. Naturally, I discovered his brother, Hank Green, also had written a book. So, onto the Christmas wish list it went!
I’m happy to report that An Absolutely Remarkable Thing was a delightful and refreshing read! I particularly enjoyed the mixture of social commentary, science fiction, and humor seamlessly blended through the lens of protagonist April May. ALSO IT HAS GIANT ROBOTS.
