I never really thought a middle grade book would make me cry in the first 24 pages but… Amari and the Night Brothers has. It’s a sibling story, and well, let’s just say I’m overly sensitive to sibling stories right now.
I’ve finished Amari now, and I have to say, this book makes me want to read more middle grade. This story was heartfelt, adventurous, and full of wonder and hope. It was delightful. Amari herself is an absolute joy of a character. This is a wonderful fish-out-of-water magical story. I was engrossed enough in the story that its final twists and turns even surprised me. So if you’re an adult waffling on reading a middle grade story, stop waffling. Pick this book up!
And if you’re a parent looking for stories to suggest to you kids, consider Amari and the Night Brothers. A lot of little girls will see themselves in Amari. And that is a beautiful thing.
